Bunions
Bunions occur when the big toe joint angle changes resulting in the big toe drifting towards the other toes and a bump develops to the side of the foot. This is a structural change and often occurs in people who have very flexible foot joints and tends to be hereditary.
We are unable to reverse the progress of a bunion as this can only be done surgically. We can however provide treatment options that can help to reduce the pressure of footwear to the joint. For appropriate foot types orthotics (special insoles) can help to control foot function and facilitate the movement of the big toe joint. This can help to reduce the risk of further progression of the bunion.
